hand, we also added "Fiddler on the Roof" to our collection of
DVD musicals.

New Movies:
Hollywood comes to North Hero, at least in the form of
new DVDs and VHS of several Oscar Winners. So far we have "Capote"
and "Walk the Line". We will be purchasing "Brokeback
Mountain, "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Crash".
We are also adding the films of Vermont film maker, John O'Brien:

offering Libraries a reduced price and sending all the films in both VHS
and DVD format.
We have War of the Worlds, 40-Year Old Virgin and
Broken Flowers in VHS format.
Our latest new film is Sideways. Two men go on an excursion and end up
inducing midlife crises in this comedy-drama that won six indepent
Spirit Awards, including best Feature and Best Director.
We replaced
Gone With the Wind and Chicago.
The Librarian of the year is Rivkah Sass who, has pushed the Omaha
Library toward greatness (From Library Journal VOl. 131 No. 1). She
made several changes "very aggressive weeding and rearrangement of the
collection. The libraries were too full of the old stuff. The
collection is now more visible", Sass stated. In addition she "put
money into our DVD collection.
I think we (Judy, Eva, Jack-our 'regular volunteers and myself) have
stumbled on the right track. Last year we did a very aggressive weeding
and inventory of what we have. The card catalog is in much better
shape. We have room to display books now.
For several years, we have been building our DVD and VHS collection
(mostly DVD). Like Sass, the DVD collection is a mixture of classic
films and 'new' films. We strive to have something for everyone and the
quality of the film is a big consideration. Sass asserts, "You many not
find 'Legally Blonde' in the DVD collection, but you will find last
year's Sundance winners and other important movies."
However, we do have problems with DVDs.
They are fragile. Please take
care of them. When important DVDs are either lost or damaged, we
replace them. This means that we will have to order fewer new films.
Garden State, Hotel Rwanda, Lemony Snicket's A Series
of...., The Story of the Weeping Camel, Duke Ellington's Sophisticated
Ladies, Phantom of the Opera, and Sunset Story.
